Getting started
How to download your Instagram data
UnfollowScout never asks for your Instagram password. Instead, you upload the data export that Instagram gives you directly. Here's how to request it.
On the Instagram app or website
- Open Instagram and go to Settings and privacy.
- Tap Accounts Centre → Your information and permissions.
- Choose Download your information, then Download or transfer information.
- Select the account you want, then choose Some of your information.
- Under Connections, tick Followers and following.
- For Date range, choose All time — this is important, otherwise your followers file may be missing.
- Set the format to JSON and the quality to any option, then tap Create files.
After you request it
Instagram prepares the file and emails you a download link, usually within a few minutes to an hour. When it arrives:
- Download the ZIP file to your device.
- In UnfollowScout, go to Profiles and drop the ZIP into the upload area.
- Everything is parsed in your browser — your follower lists never reach our servers.
Tip: If your upload says it can't find a followers file, re-request the export with the date range set to All time and Followers and following selected. A "Last year" range can produce an export that only contains your following list.
Once uploaded, head to your Dashboard to see your Health Score and the list of accounts that don't follow you back.
